Deidra Hughes (Director)
Since the early age of fifteen, I knew that I wanted to be a singer. It was at that moment I began my quest to become the best version of me I could be. In 1997 I graduated from Harrison Performing Arts High School where I took voice lessons, sang with the chamber singers, as well as our school choir. I also learned how to read music and perform in musical theater. After graduating high school, I pursued my musical ambitions while attending Southeastern University in Lakeland FL studying vocal performance. During my time in college I sang with the schools vocal touring group, lead the school worship choir, lead worship at my home church as well as the school chapel, and I lead a summer touring group. I trained in classical music, contemporary music, and jazz. In January 2000, I joined the well-known Christian vocal group TRUTH, under the direction of Roger Breland. For the next two years, performing over 300 concerts each year, from coast to coast across the United States, overseas to the Philippines, Africa, and Hong Kong, I developed into a solo artist. After my experience in TRUTH, I was given the opportunity to share the stage with well-known artist in several genres of music such as Natalie Grant, Avalon, Anthony Evans, Kirk Franklin, Luke Bryan, Trace Adkins, Sheryl Crow, and Blake Shelton. I would not have garnered the opportunities I have been able to experience in life without the people who poured their expertise into me and mentored me since the age of 15. I am honored to be able to do the same for the next generation of upcoming artists. |
